BHSA ANNUAL MEETING NOVEMBER 14, 2009

In attendance: Rich Sieveke, Diane Sieveke, Dave Fletcher, Flo Fletcher, Greg Iverson, Jerry Penwell, Jerome Bisler, Ray Ruff, Kristi Ruff, Tom Hanson, Rod Huber, Joyce Huber, Darcy Szymanski, Dean Szymanski, Mark Latsa.

Meeting was called to order at 7 pm by President Rich Sieveke. As a year in review, Rich stated that the 1880 train robberies and bank robbery all went very well. Our September Invitational did not go as well as hoped. We did not get any out of state applications for the 2nd year and a small showing from our members. Then, we had the rain and fog which caused the cancellation of Day 2 so only the first 5 stages were shot.

NEW BUSINESS
Due to the resignation of Brent White as Territorial Governor which he sent last week, we do not have any position that needs to be voted on. A motion was made by Dave Fletcher, 2nd by Greg Iverson and motion passed by majority vote, to accept the ballot for election of officers.

INVITATIONAL
A discussion was held whether to continue the September Invitational. Rich made a suggestion, that until the economy changes and shootist are more able to travel to our shoot, that we change the Invitational to a 2 day fun shoot for our members. A discussion was held as to what we could have for shooting stages and Rich stated we can set it up however we wanted. It can include short and long range stages. A discussion was held as to the fees for this weekend. It was decided that a $5.00 lunch fee each day would be included with the entry fee. The evening dinner would be paid by each member. That way you can order whatever you wanted. If you want Prime Rib or a hamburger, order what you want and not be locked into a specific meal. It was decided that $40.00 for the 2 day fun shoot including lunches both days was reasonable.

LUNCHES
A discussion was held in regards to the donation for lunches at the shoot. There has been very little money donated for the lunches. Most of the time less than $10.00 for all the people that eat and the amount of food available. The discussion was held to not have any lunch vs. raising the shooting fees to help defer the cost of lunch. It was decided not to raise shooting fees but that the cost of lunch would be $5.00 not donation. It will be in the newsletter so everyone will know what will be served.

MARCH SOCIAL
Our Social will be held March 6th at the American Legion Hall in Piedmont. A discussion was held regarding dinner for that night and beef and turkey with all the trimmings was decided on.

Tom Hanson agreed to be chairman for the games. We will have 5-6 games. Farroh - Greg, Black Jack - Dave F. , Bean Bag - Mark L., Super Wheel, Wheel of Fortune - Rich, Deer Darts - Ray and Travis Ruff. We need to check if the shooting gallery is in working order. It is currently at Dave Burris house and he was not in attendance. Prizes for the games should be between $40-50.00. Try and get donations, if not the club will reimburse for any prizes. Ray will donate prizes for the kids games. Joyce and Rod also will donate a prize. Rich has someone lined up to take OLD TIME PHOTOS at the Social. Jim Carpenter has agreed to take the photos. We will have the silent auction again. These items need to be new, can be donated by business or homemade crafts items. This can range from movie night baskets with a movie and popcorn etc. to Death by Chocolate filled with all kinds of chocolate. Use your imagination and come up with some ingenious ideas. We will have a live auction and these items can be anything as long as it is in good shape. We can also add donated items we receive for this auction. We still need cowboy boots for centerpieces.

SERVING BREAKFAST AT AMERICAN LEGION ON NOVEMBER 22ND.
Diane has contacted radio stations to advertise that we are serving breakfast. Diane and Joyce handed out flyers to business in the area. Anyone who wants a flyer can take one and place it in a business. Joyce will make signs to put up. The breakfast will be served from 8-1 pm. We need to be at the hall at 7 am. Tell all your family and friends to come for breakfast. REMEMBER TO DRESS IN YOUR COWBOY ATTIRE.

Shoot tomorrow. No shoot in December. January’s shoot will be our chili feed. A motion was made, 2nd and passed by majority to adjourn the meeting. HAPPY HOLIDAYS - SEE EVERYONE IN 2010. Minutes submitted by Secretary Flo Fletcher

BLACK HILLS SHOOTIST ASSOCIATION
SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER MINUTES

Well our Dakota Territory Gold Rush shoot was a wet one. The meeting on Saturday, Sept. 12 was called to order by President Hawkbill Smith. Badlands Dave was introduced as Match Director. The group was divided into 2 posses. The first 5 stages would be shot the first day, and 6-10 on Sunday. Big Louie, the Safety Officer, gave a short safety briefing. The scorekeepers were introduced and were asked to turn in the scores after each station was finished. Diane reminded everyone that Happy Hour started at 5pm and dinner at 6pm at the Hitching Post in Pringle. We started our day with hopes that the rain would hold off, but after the first 2 stages, Badlands Dave was scurrying to put up some cover that the posses could put their gun carts under. The day finished with everyone soggy but still on good spirits. We were not able to utilize our great patio area as everyone huddled under the canopy to stay dry. We had a great dinner at the Hitching Post. The next morning we woke to still more rain. We postponed the start for an hour to see if the weather would calm down. We would have continued in the rain, but the fog rolled in and we were not able to see the targets, so the decision was made to call the shoot. We used the scores from Saturday. I very quickly got the scores totaled (the CD took a hike during this time and everything had to be done by hand). The awards were handed out and everyone loaded their trucks/cars and left. In the aftermath, the scores were left in the camper so that is why they were not posted before today. Here are the scores:

Senior:
1st Big Louie - 318.57
2nd Horsecreek Jerry 335.31
3rd Chuckwagon 472.52
Gunfighter:
1st Parson Pete 239.96
2nd Slim Yote 248.06
3rd Dakota Curly 263.36 Tradionalist:
1st Killer McBash 287.96
2nd Medicine Bow Bandit 294.03
3rd Salt n Pepper Pappy 382.41
Duelist:
1st Diego Kid 252.26
2nd Badlands Red 297.10
3rd Hawkbill Smith 300.78
Women:
1st Contrary Mary 454.21
2nd Purdy Woman 758.96.
Top Gun:
Men: Pastor Pete
Women: Contrary Mary
Side Matches: Single shot long range - Dakota Curly
Large caliber, lever action - Dakota Curly
Pistol caliber - Slim Yote

Katie, Sassparilla Susie, wants to thank everyone who bought her pop and cupcakes. Zak, Little Buckshot, thanks everyone for the tips he was given for picking up brass.

Meeting for October 18th was called to order by Hawkbill Smith.

NEW BUSINESS:
October is the month for nominations. We will have election of officers on November 14th at the American Legion Club. It is steak night and they start serving at 5 pm. The meeting will be at 7pm. Submit any nominations for President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Seargeant-at_Arms, Safety Officer, Range Officer, and Territory Governor. Please submit your nominations to Rich or Flo by October 31st. Ballots will be mailed by November 3rd so anyone not able to make the annual election meeting on the 14th can vote absentee.

This meeting is our business meeting and any concerns need to be brought up and discussed. One item already brought up is whether we should continue to have our annual shoot in September.

November 22nd is the day we will be serving breakfast at the American Legion. We need 7-10 people there from 7am to 1pm. We will be serving eggs, hash browns, pancakes and sausage. Diane has started a workers list. With enough help, no one should have to be there the whole time. Contact Diane and let her know if you will be available. We need to be dressed in our western clothes. Tell all your friends and family members to show up and support our club. We have a chance to make this a profitable moneymaker. Diane has flyers we can hand out or place in business. Just contact Diane if you want some.

November 15th will be the last shoot of the year. In January is our annual chili feed. March will be our Social. Diane is requesting 8-10 pairs of childrens cowboy boots to use for center pieces.

Diane brought samples of cups with our Logo. After discussing prices and designs, a vote was taken and designs from Sandscripts was chosen.

Rich thanked Carlene for the great job she did on the flag. She did an excellent job on it.

Rich made mention that the train robberies went well this year. The scenarios were more realistic and fun to do. It was to bad the last train robbery of the year was cancelled due to the train being derailed. Diane had information about the Holiday Train for families.

Greg stated that the club was given a 14x70 trailer. It has a stove, refrigerator and propane heater. We need a way to get it moved to the range. Diane said we should check with the landlord to see if it is ok. Greg will check some moving agencies to find out cost of moving it from Sturgis to the range.

Rich was contacted by someone trying to start a new shooting club in Spearfish. He is looking for members and financial help in getting the club started. Rich will send out more information.

REMEMBER TO TURN IN ANY NOMINATION TO RICH OR FLO BY OCTOBER 31ST. OUR ELECTION/BUSINESS MEETING WILL BE NOVEMBER 14TH AT THE AMERICAN LEGION HALL IN PIEDMONT T 7 PM. OUR LAST SHOOT OF THE YEAR WILL BE NOVEMBER 15TH.

BLACK HILLS SHOOTIST ASSOCIATION

2007 ANNUAL MEETING OCTOBER 13, 2007

The meeting was called to order by President Hawkbill Smith.

TREASURES REPORT:
Lilly Lu (Diane) reported that we took in $ at our September shoot. We paid out $ which included $ for dinner at the Cattlemen’s Restaurant. Our bank balance is $ Discussion was held that we need to find another place to have our banquet. Please submit any ideas to Diane.

OLD BUSINESS:
2007 Dakota Territory Gold Rush
1. Do we need changes?
It was brought up for discussion that we should include the fees for the meals we serve on Saturday and Sunday with the total cost of the shoot. That would prevent confusion and need to have change and money on site. We also discussed if we should increase our fees or charge more for the spouse. The motion was made that we increase our fee by $10.00 to include lunches. Motion was seconded and passed by members.
2. Set design and scenarios? One person complained that the cowboys were too small and also had complaints of scatter. Terri read the SASS suggestions for regulations for distance and size. We are within the regulations. It was suggested we could change the angle and see if that would help. Discussion regarding stage 7. We need to have a step or steps built for that stage. It was discussed that we should have more movable targets. No negative comments on the scenarios. Good job on scenarios went to Badlands Dave and Big Louie.
3. Feed back by visitors? Hawkbill had one complaint from shooters that some guns were too loud. All loads were within legal loads.
4. Targets? Dean will make some more targets. If anyone is willing to help him, give him a call. Supplies needed are flat steel and square tubing. Deans # 347-2927.
5. Discussion? Badlands Dave was asked to be match director again for next year. He agreed to do it with Big Louie as his assistant match director.

1880 Train Robberies
1. Need more than 1 scenario- Discussion was held regarding the scenarios for the train robbery. It was agreed that we need more than 1scenario. Some ideas included having a hanging and letting the women win sometimes. Hawkbill would like some new scenario ideas written out and submitted to the club for discussion. Remember it can’t be too elaborate as we only have 10-15 minutes. It was discussed that we need to move further out as we are too close to the cars and the end cars cannot see the action.
2. Meg would like more action on the train Greg will talk with Meg as to what she wants. Right now the women ride the train and we have to sit and not walk around. It was discussed that we have a good guy and bad guy on each car and have them get into a fight. We can’t have too many men on the train as we need then for the shootout.
3. Everyone needs to stick to the script or scenario as much as possible. Too much adlib only creates confusion. Everything needs to work in sequence or it goes too fast or too slow.

NEW BUSINESS:
2008 Cowboy Social
1. Chair person or persons? Our Social this year will be on March 1, 2008. Bonnie and Terri will be chairpersons.
2. Committees?
A. Games
We had six games last year. Terri mentioned that Bonnie may have another one to add this year. Need volunteers for the games. Dean, Barb, Tim and Greg volunteered. We will need more.
B. Décor
Terri stated that Bonnie was working on the decorations and the theme for the social.
C. Auction items
We need auction items. Please hit up sponsors, employers and the community for items we can auction off. We can also auction off used item from home if they are in good condition.
D. Door prizes
We also need items for door prizes.
E. Menu
We need to come up with a menu and the VFW will cook it. Different menu options were discussed with Roast Beef and Fried Chicken taking the honors. Diane will let the VFW know our selection.
Set Design Stage #1
1. Working on pricing
Hawkbill has been doing some pricing for items needed for Red Owl design. It will run around $150.00 for brick. Jack is working on getting donations of wood we can use.
Fencing
Badlands Dave found that Discount Lumber would give us the best price and even a better price with a big order. It is estimated that we need 25 posts and 50 rails.
Calvary Days
Greg reported that Calvary Days will be the second weekend in June. The board has all new people this year and that Bob Bender is Director of Calvary Days. Greg will keep us informed of the plans for Calvary Days. Some comments from last year is that some people wanted it back at Ft. Meade but there was better attendance in the park and more vendors.
The Year in Review (Video)
Change in by-laws
A discussion was held to change our by-law in regards to nominations, elections and date of our annual meeting. A nomination was made to change nominations of office to September-October and have our annual meeting in November. The motion was seconded and passed by club members.

OPEN FOR DISCUSSION
1. Diane requested money to reimburse Joyce for the pictures that she took of the group during the Governors Run. She used her own funds for the pictures, the albums for the pictures and the CD’s she made. Diane mentioned that Joyce and her husband are thinking of becoming members. After a discussion a vote was held and approved by members to give Joyce $50.00, a family membership to the club, and 2 dinners the night of our Social.
2. Diane brought up that everyone had a good time during the tour of the Horse Sanctuary and picnic. Diane suggested giving them a donation as they usually get $50.00 per person. A discussion lead to donating money to shooting clubs for youths instead of to horses. The discussion was tabled and will be brought up at our next shoot.
3. Club e-mails. A few people mentioned to Hawkbill that they do not want their e-mails used for personal e-mails for jokes or chain letters etc. Club member e-mails are ONLY for club business.
4. Tim mentioned that the Gun Show will be in December. We can set up with Tim or get our own table. It is $25.00 for a table. Tim will get specific dates and let Hawkbill know.
5. A discussion was held if we want to keep our web site. It was agreed to keep it as it is paid for. Greg had been sending club pictures but the site had not been updated in a while. Greg will look into it. Rich will get web site to SASS.
6. We will go forward with the purchase of a new SASS program. It was voted on last year but we were hoping to get one at lower cost but that plan did not work out. Diane will go ahead and order the program.
