Tom Raines- President
SD Shooting Sports 2008-2009
Tom grew up in Dell Rapids, SD. He is a 1960 graduate of South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. He worked as a Standard Oil Rep in the 60’s. He then switched to the banking business and was a loan officer in North Dakota, Wyoming, Mitchell, SD and Brookings, SD. He retired as one of the VP of First Bank & Trust in Brookings in 2006.
Tom started pistol shooting in the SD Air National Guard in the 1960’s and continues to shoot pistol and smallbore, but favors high power service rifle.
He enjoys big game, turkey and upland bird hunting but is still waiting for his Big Horn Sheep. He is a collector of Carbines, Garands, Springfields and Smith & Wessons.
Tom served as the Secretary for SD Shooting Sports from 1978 to 2004.

Bruce Plate- Vice President
SD Shooting Sports 2008-2009
Bruce Plate lives with his wife Ruby near Vermillion. They have three adult daughters. Ruby was one of the leaders for the Clay County 4-H Horse Project. She encouraged Bruce to become a 4-H leader so he became one of the first leaders to begin the local 4-H Shooting Sports project. He became a certified 4-H instructor and for several years served on the South Dakota 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor Trainer team. Bruce has been involved in the shooting sports since the time he received a BB-gun at the age of 6.
He attended the University of South Dakota and competed throughout the Midwest with the USD Rifle Team. He went on to complete a 27 year career with the Vermillion Police Department retiring as Chief of Police in 2002. He was hired by the National Rifle Association in 2004 as the NRA Field Rep for North and South Dakota. He recently retired from that position.
In 1996 he helped develop the Vermillion Friends of NRA committee. This was only the third committee at that time and is currently the second longest running event in South Dakota.
Current certifications, NRA Certified Instructor in rifle, muzzleloading and home firearms security. South Dakota Hunt Safe Instructor, Certified 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor, NRA Range Technical Team Advisor and will become a certified shooting sports instructor for Boy Scouts of America this spring.
Memberships in local organizations: Edgemont Trap Club, Clay County Sportsman's Club, Vermillion Pistol Club and the Yankton Sharpshooters.
Statewide and National Memberships: Endowment/Life Member National Rifle Association, Life Member South Dakota Shooting Sports, Life Member Amateur Trapshooting Association, Life Member Dakota Territory Gun Collectors, Member of Lions Club International.
The shooting highlight for 2007 was attending and competing in the Regional Paralyzed Veterans of America Trap shoot held at Crooks Gun Club in September.

Greg Iverson- Secretary
Greg is a life member of several organizations including:
South Dakota Shooting Sports, North America hunting Club, North American Fishing Club, and the Single
Action Shooting Society or SASS and the National Rifle Association. He started the Rushmore Shooters
out of Rapid City, and has belonged to the Black Hills Shootist, The Seven Downs Regulators,
Northern hills Rifle League, Lead Deadwood Rifle League, and of course the Rushmore Shooters. He
shot Service Rifle for the Military High Power since 1972 and coached the Army N.G.Long Ranch team from
1982 to retirement in 1990. He enjoys shooting SASS & Black Powder Rifles and Pistols. During
the winter he shoots indoor .22 Rifle League.
He is retired from a 20 year military career, and he lives with his family on a ranch just east of Tilford (between Rapid City and Sturgis, SD) where they raise beef cattle. Greg and his wife Janice have raised 7 children (three boys and four girls ages 27 to 40). In 1990 he moved to the ranch fulltime when his dad told him he was going to have to sell the cows or Greg had to retire. Greg retired but didn't want to sell any cows so they run about 160 to 200 head.
